Getting started
Where can I get TakeJam?
TakeJam has been submitted to Apple for review and is not available to download yet. The planned download is free, with an optional TakeJam Studio annual subscription at $49.99/year in the US. This page will link to the listing when it is available.
What is free, and what needs Studio?
Free rehearsal includes all 24 bundled templates: 12 CueJolt acting scenes, 6 Dance boards and 6 Creator templates. An active TakeJam Studio subscription unlocks camera recording, custom text/photo board creation and editing, video import and all new MP4 exports, including Clean.
Do I need an account?
No TakeJam developer account is needed. Apple handles subscription purchases and restoration through your Apple Account. Your cue boards, their photo hints and your clip library are stored on your iPhone.
Studio & billing
How is Studio billed?
TakeJam Studio is $49.99 per year in the US, billed as one annual payment. It renews automatically until canceled. Apple charges your Apple Account after you confirm a purchase; renewal can be charged in the 24 hours before the next annual period. This launch plan has no free-trial offer.
How do I cancel or restore access?
To stop a renewal, open iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions → TakeJam Studio and cancel. Do this at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the next charge. For a previously purchased subscription, use Restore Purchases in TakeJam with the Apple Account used to subscribe. Apple’s services handle purchasing and restoration.
What happens when my subscription ends?
Free rehearsal with the 24 bundled templates continues. Recording, new or edited custom boards, video import and all new MP4 exports, including Clean, need active Studio access. Existing recordings remain viewable, shareable and deletable. You can also view, rehearse and delete saved boards. A recording, edit or export already in progress can finish so your work is preserved. Expiration does not delete those files.
Where are the subscription terms?
Studio is annual only; there is no monthly or lifetime offer in this launch plan. The purchase confirmation shows the current annual price and any applicable taxes.
Text & photo cues
Creating or editing custom boards requires active TakeJam Studio access. You can keep viewing, rehearsing and deleting boards already saved after Studio expires.
How do I make a template my own?
Choose a bundled template and tap Make it yours. Change the title and cues, then Save to keep your own editable copy. To start from scratch, choose My cues and Create cue board. The bundled template stays available.
Can a cue use a photo without text?
Yes. Each cue can contain text, a photo hint or both. Tap Add photo hint and choose the image through the system Photos picker. TakeJam receives only what you select, makes a smaller local copy and keeps it with the board. Your original photo is unchanged.
Can I edit and reorder a saved board?
Choose the saved board and tap Edit this board. Add another cue or use a cue’s options to move it up or down or remove it. You can change or remove a photo, too. Tap Save to update the same board. Cancel leaves the saved version unchanged.
Can my own board use Dance counts?
In the board editor, set Use it for to Dance, Creator or Acting. A custom Dance board keeps the visual eight-count and BPM controls. Counts do not listen to or synchronize with music.
Do photo hints appear in the exported video?
No. They are display hints in the cue card and full-screen Performer view. MP4 cue overlays contain your written text only; hint photos are not added to the video. Cue cards and Minimal use written cues, while Clean adds no cue overlay.
Recording & practice
Why does recording need camera and microphone access?
The camera captures the picture and the microphone captures the sound in your take. TakeJam asks when you choose Open camera or Record a take. You can rehearse cues without filming. To change permissions, open iPhone Settings, find TakeJam and review Camera and Microphone.
How do Dance counts work?
Dance uses a visual count from 1 to 8. Choose a BPM preset or enter any positive whole-number BPM. Counts are visual: they do not play an audio metronome, listen to a song or synchronize to music.
How long can I record, and what is the countdown?
Choose a common duration preset, enter your own take length or record until you stop. Use a countdown preset or set your own countdown, including 0 for an immediate start. Actual recording length depends on available storage, battery and device conditions.
Why is the torch unavailable?
Torch support depends on the selected camera and iPhone hardware. Try the rear camera on a device with a torch. Not every camera or device supports it.
How can I make the prompts easier to use?
You can mirror prompts, use the level guide to position the phone and enable haptic cue feedback. Keep text short enough to read from where you perform. For review, use slow playback or loop the clip.
Your clips
How do I find and name my takes?
Open Your takes from the film-stack button. Each clip shows a thumbnail, duration, date and type. Search by name, sort by date or name, or filter Recorded, Imported and Exported. Choose More options → Rename to give a clip a useful name. Names stay in TakeJam; the video file and previously shared copies remain unchanged. These library tools remain available after Studio expires.
Can I cancel an import or export?
Tap Cancel import or Cancel export while it runs. TakeJam removes only the unfinished copy or export from that attempt. Your source video and other saved takes stay unchanged.
New recording, video imports and all new MP4 exports, including Clean, require Studio. You can always view, share or delete existing library recordings, including after the subscription ends.
Which videos can I import?
Import full clips from Photos or Files in a format your device supports. There is no fixed app duration or file-size cap; your iPhone needs enough available storage for the local copy and any exports. TakeJam does not change the original. Cloud-based files may need to download through their provider first. Longer clips can take more time to import and export.
What is the difference between the export styles?
All three styles require active Studio access for new exports and preserve the full clip duration. Cue captions include your written directions at their cue times. Minimal uses a smaller overlay. Clean exports without cue overlays. Longer exports take more time and storage. Photo hints are not added to exported videos. Cue captions are authored text, not automatic subtitles or speech transcription.
Where are my recordings saved?
Recordings, imported copies and exported versions appear in TakeJam’s local clip library. Use the system share sheet to send a file to a destination you choose. They are not automatically published or sent to a TakeJam server.
What happens when I delete a clip?
Deleting removes the selected local file after confirmation. Originals and exported versions are separate files, so delete each version you no longer want. Copies already shared, the source of an import and device backups are managed separately.
Can I recover a deleted clip?
TakeJam does not provide a recovery service for deleted local files. A copy may remain in a destination where you previously shared it or in a device backup, depending on your settings.
